About Us

Partnering for a sustainable future.

Our aim is to partner with landowners, enabling them to understand and access new natural capital opportunities.

Founded with a vision to bridge the gap between landowners, developers, and investors, we work collaboratively to deliver impactful, large-scale biodiversity projects across the UK. Our mission is to make natural capital markets transparent, accessible, and effective, enabling landowners to turn their natural assets into sustainable sources of income and developers to meet Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements through clear, actionable strategies.

Biodiversity Net Gain

As of 2024, developers in England must demonstrate a 10% increase in biodiversity to gain planning permission. When this uplift is not possible onsite, they can pay local landowners to create new habitats and improve existing ones on their behalf. This offsite biodiversity gain is then allocated to the development, ensuring compliance with the 10% net gain requirement.

Carbon Markets

Through changing land management or land use, landowners can undertake projects that sequester carbon. Activities such as tree planting, peatland restoration, and improving soil carbon through sustainable farming capture more carbon, which can then be verified and quantified before being sold as credits to organisations looking to offset their emissions.

Nature-Based Solutions

Almost all organisations and businesses depend on nature’s ecosystem services. More responsible companies are recognising this reliance and are partnering with landowners to sustain or improve the ecosystem services on which they depend. Payments for flood mitigation, water quality improvements, and access to land for recreation are becoming increasingly widespread.

Bright Clouds

National Farmers Union

"The health of the land is the foundation of the future. Landowners who embrace regenerative practices will lead the way in balancing nature and profitability."

Natural England

"By restoring habitats, planting trees, and enhancing biodiversity, landowners are not only protecting nature - they’re creating new income streams and future-proofing their estates."

Natural Capital Forum

"Investing in nature isn’t a sacrifice - it’s an opportunity to build resilience, enhance biodiversity, and ensure economic returns for generations to come."

UK Government

"Those who own the land hold the power to heal it. By integrating conservation with business, landowners can turn sustainability into an asset, not a cost."

Tony Juniper, Chair of Natural England

"Achieving nature recovery is a complex task that can only be realised through partnerships. These bring together the people who manage land and sea, the different sources of investment, and knowledge that we need to make progress."

Natural Capital Committee

"Landowners are the stewards of the natural world, holding the key to restoring ecosystems, capturing carbon, and enhancing biodiversity for future generations."

Mark Bridgeman, President of the Country Land and Business Association

"As stewards of the countryside, landowners are uniquely placed to deliver meaningful programmes that will drive environmental recovery."

What is BNG?

Understanding Biodiversity Net Gain

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is an opportunity for landowners to improve biodiversity through habitat creation, to generate a long-term sustainable income by creating of enhancing natural habitats.

As part of new planning regulations, developers are required to deliver a measurable increase in biodiversity, often needing to partner with landowners to achieve this. By participating in BNG, landowners can monetise conservation efforts, improve land resilience, and contribute to long-term nature recovery while maintaining agricultural productivity.

Natural Asset Partners provides an end-to-end solution for landowners looking to explore BNG. We partner with landowners to determine if BNG is the right fit, as it is not always the best option for every site. Our team assesses land potential and designs business models while considering risks, benefits, and integration with existing land management.

Our land advisors and ecologists work closely with landowners to design a tailored scheme, develop financial modelling, provide legal support, and connect with developers to secure partnerships and sell BNG units. Our partnership-led approach ensures that landowners can confidently participate in BNG, securing financial benefits while enhancing biodiversity.

Martyn Braggs – Shillingford Organics

“The Natural Asset Partners team have been exceptionally clear and diligent advising us which are the best BNG options that would work on our farm.  They have a very honest approach to the long-term implications for our farm, and a deep understanding of how the legislation work.”

Alex Theaker - Avenue Farm

"We are keen to diversify our farm with projects like BNG to create a more balanced farm with ecology, sustainability and profitability. BNG gives us the opportunity to turn less productive areas of our farm into restorative nature projects, ensuring both our business and the local environment with thrive."

Emily Padfield - Hill Farm, Southam

"We see BNG as an opportunity to further what we are working towards on our farm: providing healthy, nutrient-dense food whilst enhancing biodiversity. Integrating BNG is a natural step for us allowing us to invest further in achieving these goals."

The BNG Process

01

Baseline

Undertake ecological surveys to understand the habitats present and their current condition.

02

Viability Workshops & Scheme Design

A workshop to explore the viability of the project, and determine the target habitats, condition and locations.

03

Legals & Structuring

Implementing the best legal structure to secure the project, either via a S106 agreement, or a Conservation Covenant.

04

Implementation

Undertaking the habitat works to create new habitats and enchase their condition. NAP will be on hand for advise.

05

Sale fo BNG Units

NAP will undertake and support the marketing and sales of BNG Units, building relationshsips with local developers in need.

06

Long-term Partnership & Mangement

New partner with landowbners for the lifetime of projects, helping address isssues if they arise, and undertaking progress monitoring.

We offer various financial structures, including revenue-sharing agreements to minimise upfront costs.

Future-Proof for Next Generations

BNG can provide the opportunity to retain land ownership for the next generation without the requirement of full-time farming.

Make Unproductive Land Work

BNG allows currently unproductive land to become an asset, generating income.

Carbon Schemes

We help landowners implement trustworthy, transparent, and impactful carbon sequestration schemes.

Partnering for a Sustainable Future

Beautiful Landscape

Woodland Planting

Tree planting sequesters carbon, boosts biodiversity, and strengthens land resilience. The Woodland Carbon Code (WCC) certifies projects for financial incentives and verified carbon credits.

Coast Line

Peatland Restoration

Healthy peatlands store vast carbon reserves. The Peatland Carbon Code (PCC) helps landowners restore them, generating certified carbon credits while improving water quality and biodiversity.

Agricultural Gardens

Sustainable Agriculture

Regenerative farming enhances soil carbon storage and productivity. The Soil Association’s Soil Carbon Exchange supports farmers in measuring and monetizing soil carbon through verified credits.

Nature-Based Solutions

Understanding Biodiversity Net Gain

Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) are projects that work with nature and natural processes to provide sustainable long-term solutions to problems.

We work with landowners to take advantage of these opportunities and deliver nature-based solutions.
